Pho Wa Ja Gur Ma
Rainbow Phowa Transformation

Phowa pronounced “p”owa; the “ph” is to emphasize the explosive “p” sound) is a very important teaching in the Tibetan community and among Bönpo it is very popular. There are several teachings on Phowa, but Rainbow Phowa is one of the most common to all Bön, both the lay practitioner and the monk.

As we all know, death is certain. At that moment Phowa is the one practice that transforms our consciousness into the nature of the Enlightened ones and liberates our selves from the suffering of cyclic existence (Khorwa.) Without any appearances of destruction in Bardo, (here it is also necessary to know more about Bardo and its appearances) and having experienced Realization of our nature of mind, without fear and doubt, we may unite in the nature of our own Enlightenment.

Students may follow the above practices or be given further advanced teachings of Sang Nag (Esoteric) or Dzögchen (Great Perfection) - according to the capacity of the students and their understanding.
