A Khrid Kalung Gyatso (Pronounced A-Tri)
Preliminary Teaching

The Preliminary Teaching (Ngondro) is most essential for our understanding of Bön. It is the foundation needed to receive advanced teaching of Sang Nag (Esoteric) and Dzögchen (Great Perfection). In this Preliminary we learn how to receive teachings properly and to apply the essence of Bön teachings in our day-to-day life.

The Ocean of Teaching & Transmission by Shardza Tashi Gyaltsen is a more detailed commentary on the A-Tri tradition of Dzögchen, the Preliminary Teaching of Bön.

The A-Tri tradition originated from the Great Dzögchen Master, Gongzod Ri Troe Chenpo; B.1038-1096, who wrote The Great Hermitage Treasure of Mind. From that day until now, this teaching exists in an unbroken lineage. (A-Tri was later systemized by Bru Rgyal Wa gYungDrung B.1242.)
